VOLUMES

Published as a single volume each season, Pavilion is a gathering of essays, profiles, and process—work that shares an appetite for water, the body, leisure, and the architecture we raise around them.

The word descends from papilio, the butterfly: once the name for a tent whose canopy opened like a pair of wings. A pavilion has always been a building made for pleasure rather than shelter—set apart in a garden or at the water's edge, a room where the body is invited to come undone in private.
